Newsletter Winter 2012
A happy New Year to you all. What a contrast with last year’s weather. Daffodils are out in the garden with hellebores and snowdrops. Are we going to have another Spring with everything out at the same time?
We thought that you would all be interested to know that Rosie Mack has be awarded a first class degree from the Open University. I’m sure that we all would like to congratulate her on a fantastic achievement.
November Meeting
This was a very well attended meeting for a very interesting and opinionated speaker, Paul Templeton. He spoke to us about wild and environmentally friendly gardening and explode some of the myths perpetrated by TV presenters. He was very entertaining and we hope that we will be able to invite him back to speak on another subject.
Christmas meal
Thirty six of us went out to the Fox and Hounds for a Christmas celebration. The pub staff looked after us really well as usual. The food was very good and the company even better.
January Meeting
Not so many people at this meeting, but a very interesting talk on Bonsai by a speaker, who kindly substituted for the original speaker.
Outing to Wisley
There will be forms at the February meeting for the members’ outing to Wisley on June 16th. The cost of the outing will be £12 (just for the coach) as the Society is allowed a free visit because it is affiliated to the RHS, so very affordable this year! The new Rose Garden should be at its very best at this time of year. Please be prepared to pay for the outing at the meeting.
Evening Outing to Colwood House
The members’ evening outing this year is to Colwood House in Warninglid on July 26th. The forms for this event will also be ready to be picked up at the February meeting. Please be prepared to pay for the outing in advance.
Plant Sale
If you have any spare plants, cuttings or seedlings, Dave or Roy would be grateful to have them for the Plant Sale. Could you please make sure that the plants have a name and some description and that the pots are clean.
Dates for your diary
February Meeting
Patrick Coulcher will be giving an illustrated talk on the Greek Islands and their Mythology.
(The Members Class potatoes for the Summer Show will be on sale at this meeting)

Emma Mitchell will be talking about the Camellia Botnar Foundation, which helps and trains disadvantaged young people and runs a Garden Centre.
This is also the evening when we have our annual Charity Raffle to raise funds for our charity for the year, ‘Kangaroos’, so please bring a donation prize for the raffle.
Spring Show will be on 31st March, for details please see under Spring Show.
Strictly come gardening
Strictly Come Gardening is an event which is being held in The Orchards on 14th April from 10am to 3pm. The Society will be taking part and having a stall. Members are being asked to suggest things which we could do on the day. We also need volunteers to help on the stall.
